You’ve Got the Customer Service Spirit!
Last weekend, I took my car to get a good wash and detail at a local car cleaner down the road from me. I didn’t quite know what to expect since I have not been to this business before. I opt for the $23 “Ultimate” wash which includes a vacuum and full inside/outside detailing. What a deal! But, sad to say, I immediately set my expectations low and thought I’d just “get what I paid for”.
After running the car through the wash, they park it under a tent and ask me to go sit in the waiting room.
I walk into the “car wash waiting room” and sit down. I start playing around on my phone. The “car wash waiting room” is also the checkout, so people that drive through the car wash, pay through the window. The clerk is also the owner of the place and as I sit there, I watch him take payment then run outside and start hosing off the cars before they go through the machine. Then, he runs back, takes payment for the next car and when all is done, runs back outside to spray it down.
In the meantime, as he runs outside, I notice the people in the cars are waving to me as they drive through. I wave back, laughing.
While I’m sitting there watching this, he looks at me and says “If you keep being so nice to my customers, I’m going to put you to work!”
Of course, I laugh at this but I find it funny that this type of thing happens to me all the time.
I’ll be shopping at a store, in jeans and flip flops, and am approached by people asking where certain items are. If I don’t know, I’ll usually help them flag down a store associate to help further.
It happens to me so much that I often wonder if there’s a sort of “spirit” associated with this. I’ve been told it’s because I look “approachable” and “safe”. If no other store associate is around, I guess who better to ask than a friendly looking person.
Customer service isn’t just for our customers–it’s a genuine act of kindness for everyone, no matter what.
Do you often get asked to help others in places you don’t even work? Do you have the “customer service spirit” floating through your veins?
