A Customer Service Song Fest
Customer service for DMV.org consists of answering DMV related questions for all 50 states, as well as other countries.
Recently, I assisted a customer named Ben from the UK who wrote in about taking a road trip in the states. He wanted to purchase a van and was confused at how to get it registered.
So, I gave advice for his upcoming trip and called it a day.
His reply consisted of a song. Yes, a song. Watch the video below to see what I’m talking about:
I was SHOCKED. I’ve never had a customer write me a song!
Of course, I had to reply back in a creative way. Check out my reply below:
Special thanks to Ben and his housemate, James, for the fun song and for allowing me to publish this story and video online.

Awesome stuff, Jenny! So cool that you can inspire a song AND play along too!
PS. I recall some sort of learning challenge from a year ago where you would play a gig. Does this count?
Thanks, Jeff! I am still shocked about how cool this response is. And–good memory–yup, I said that I’d play an open mic night…then I chickened out. Guess I need to revisit that, huh?
Jenny, you never cease to amaze me! Such an awesome blog.
Aww haha thanks so much, Suzie. 🙂 I’m so glad you dig our blog! If you ever want to share some of your customer service knowledge on here, let me know.

Hello Jenny!
I came upon Jeff Toister’s work via Linked-In at my State of MO work and given my Customer Satisfaction Surveys Coordinator position. Through Jeff’s work I learned about your work as mention in his book. I love the creative interest you have applied in your customer service exchange, particularly with the guitar playing! It suggests “Its OK” to have a little bit of “personalizing fun” with customers. I communicate with our customer-serving staff weekly and plan to share your guitar-playing video with those staff – with the idea that, it’s OK to have a little bit of fun! And it will be a fun way to interact with staff. So thank you for your sharing for our viewing and use. Fun as you are, it would be cool if we were actually related! It’s at least cool to share the same last name, and to be able to introduce myself to you!
